Work Permits & Visas
If
you are planning to work in the UK and either hold a British
passport or have Right of Abode, you do not need a work
permit or Visa.
If
not, there are several options available:
Ancestry
Visa
This
visa is usually available to applicants who have a UK
parent or grandparent. The Ancestry Visa allows you to
live and work in the UK for up to 4 years.
Working
Holiday Visa
Designed
to encourage young residents of Commonwealth countries
to travel, it enables you to live and work in the UK for
up to 2 years. You need to be aged between 17 and 30 years
to apply for this Visa. Recent changes to this Visa mean
that you can now work for the whole 2 years.
The
Working Holiday Visa is available for UK citizens wishing
to visit other commonwealth countries such as Australia,
but the terms & conditions vary from country to country.
Please contact the country’s High commission or
Immigration department to find out these details. See
our links buttons for some of these websites.
Work
Permit
You
will require a work permit if you do not qualify for a
Working Holiday Visa, or want to work in the UK for more
than 2 years. This Work Permit requires a UK hospital
or healthcare facility to ‘sponsor’ you and
arrange your Work Permit for you. It will allow you to
work in the UK for that hospital only, and for the period
of contract and work permit. Work permits can be issued
for up to 4 years.
